2,80,000 pictures were used to create this amazing image of the Moon.

The image displays the patterns of impact craters on the Moon's surface as well as solidified lava lakes, collapsed lava tubes that resemble worms, perpetually shadowed valleys, and more.

The Sun, Moon, and Earth recently lined up in a penumbral lunar eclipse, which was an uncommon occurrence. A fresh photo of the lunar object is going popular on social media as the Moon is in its full phase.

In order to create this image of the Moon, astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy combined a total of 2,80,000 separate shots. The image shows the heavily cratered lunar surface in incredibly great detail, allowing you to even examine the crater rims and discern the smaller details.

"I made my most detailed image of our moon using two telescopes and more than 280,000 separate shots. Over one gigapixel (GB) makes up the complete size. In a tweet that included the image, Andrew McCarthy wrote, "Trust me, you'll want to zoom in on this one. Gigamoon is the name given to the picture.

McCarthy claimed that because the image is so large, his computer crashed at least twelve times while he was editing it.

McCarthy, who was mesmerised by the moon, remarked, "The moon tells a different story. From a distance, it appears as a bright light in the sky with some unique surface patterns, but we typically take it for granted in all other respects. Since we are almost 250 000 kilometres away, it can be challenging to appreciate.

Aside from the Moon, McCarthy has also captured stunning images of Venus, Sun nebulas, and other parts of the universe, perfectly balancing beauty and science. He had previously posted composite images of the Moon generated from more than 50,000 individual photos.

Astrophotographers all around the world are currently obsessed with lunar photography. In India's Muktheshwar, a recent black sky week was held. In order to increase interest in astro-tourism, India is promoting dark sky spots throughout the nation during the annual event, which is observed during the New Moon week in April.
